Gauge Glass and Gauges

Tubular Gauge Glass

Tubular Gauge Glass is the most common and comes in Red Line, High Pressure Clear, Heavy Wall Clear, and Heavy Wall Red Line.  Diameters range from 1/2″ OD to 1″ OD. End finishes may be cut, ground, or fire polished depending on application. 5/8″ OD is the most common.

Heavy Wall Gauge Glass

Penberthy Gauge Glass

Several of our customers choose to upgrade to the Penberthy Liquid Level Gauge Glass – much sturdier and applicable to several high pressure or outdoor systems. Knowing your model number, visible on the small data plate on the front of the Penberthy, is critical information for repairs, leaks, or replacement.

Tips for ordering your sight glass:

  1. Know your category: Redline, Clear, Heavy wall vs standard
  2. Know your OD and length: 5/8th OD is the most common. Length 8″, 10″, 12″, etc – or for Penberthy there is a small data plate with the model.
  3. Do you need new uppers/lowers to go with it and a full kit or just the glass?

Other Gauges

Boiler gauges are the tools that help keep you clued in to your boiler’s performance. Boiler gauges help judge conditions and work in tandem with other important boiler tools and instruments to help keep your boiler system operating safely.

Gauges also help measure supply pressure and boiler output pressure to help you stay informed of the efficiency of the most crucial boiler operations. Clear tubular gauge glass is used in order for operators and boiler professionals to make quick, clear judgments about the boiler’s pressure and water levels.

Situating Your Boiler Gauges Properly

How your boiler’s gauges are situated within its system depend on the size of your boiler. In many large-scale industrial boilers, the tubular gauge glass need to be installed on the water column as opposed to inside the boiler itself. While you may be experienced enough to discover the proper location for your gauges, it’s better to seek advice from boiler installation and maintenance professionals as well.

Because gauges and gauge glass are important to understanding your boiler’s performance, any failure of the gauges or damage to the gauge glass can have potentially serious consequences. Ensure you can track your boiler’s operations when you discuss gauge options with the experts at Manley’s Boiler. Talk to one of the team members to see if your gauges are working as hard as you need them to be.
